On Friday, October 26, 2018 the Music Resource Center (MRC) will host its 11th Annual Party Like a Rock Star fundraiser. This year’s theme is 80’s MTV so plan to break out your leg warmers, hairspray, and fanny packs! In keeping with the 80’s theme we have set a fundraising goal of $80,000. The MRC is a non-profit after-school music program for 6th-12th grade students in Charlottesville and surrounding areas. It costs an average of $1160 per day to provide services to our members. By meeting the goal of raising $80,000, we will fund about 14 weeks of programming. In 2017, we had on average 1000 member-visits per 14-week period compared to 500 members-visits over the same time period in 2016.
Each year we raise money to help ensure our program remains affordable to students who come to the center to learn music composition, songwriting, dance, lessons, and/or production. Most importantly, the money we raise helps to provide a safe, fun, music-focused environment for teenagers in our community.
Over the last year, the staff at the MRC has worked to increase the quality and quantity of our programming while not increasing the cost to members. In addition to our year-round afterschool program, we are thrilled to now offer:
- Radio MRC, our new student-operated radio station
- A second hip-hop dance team
- Spring Break Rock Band camp
- 7 weeks summer camps and workshops with an array of themes
In 2017, 68% of our members paid $10 or less for their annual membership while the most any student paid was $150. We rely on the generosity of supporters like you to continue to offer great services to our members at a cost that they and their families can afford.
We hope that you will join us to make our goal of raising $80,000 a reality by sponsoring our event. To confirm your sponsorship, you may sign up online at musicresourcecenter.org/party-sponsors.
