Party For Puerto Rico & US Virgin Islands
January 27, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm
“After Hurricanes Irma and Maria hit Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands in September, the storms left both areas in terrible condition. The islands are still struggling to provide essential needs: power, cell phone service, clean tap water, and food. Thousands of homes need roofing and repair, and the death toll is significant. Many people remain because they have either no way out, or they want to stay with their family and community. Citizens are in desperate need of health care.
Several Charlottesville families are working together to host a fundraiser in support of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Our goal is to raise enough money to send back to these areas and make a difference.
All proceeds from this fundraiser will go to two charities:
– Unidos Disaster Relief and Recovery Program to Support Puerto Rico – part of the Hispanic Federation. Endorsed by Lin Manuel Miranda. 100% of donations go directly to relief and recovery efforts: www.hispanicfederationunidos.org
– 21 US Virgin Island Relief Fund – started by San Antonio Spurs basketball player Tim Duncan, who is from the USVI. 100% of donations go directly to relief efforts: http://21usvihurricanehelp.com
Join us on Saturday, January 27th at the Music Resource Center for an evening of music, food, beer and wine to raise money for Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands hurricane victims.
Ban Caribe, a calpyso and salsa band from Richmond, will provide lively entertainment.
Zabor Dance will perform, and The Dance Spot instructors will teach a group salsa lesson!
Starr Hill has generously donated beer for the event!
Delicious bites from The Bebedero will be served!
Cool raffle items available, including a “Hamilton” book signed by LIN MANUEL MIRANDA!
SUGGESTED DONATION IS $25/person, but we welcome whatever contribution you can provide. Please pay by cash, check or credit card at the door. We are so grateful for your generosity.”
