Ways to Volunteer
The primary way volunteers engage with the Music Resource Center is by teaching one-on-one music lessons with our members. If you are interested in volunteering for special events only, please e-mail Maria Gall, our volunteer coordinator.
What We’re Looking for
We are looking for community members who are passionate about music and are willing to share their musical skills and life experiences with young musicians. You do not need to be a professional or classically trained musician to volunteer, however, volunteers should feel comfortable working one-on-one with teens to teach music lessons.
We recruit volunteers to teach the following types of lessons: audio engineering, beat making, bass, dance, drums, guitar, piano and voice.
How Lessons Work
We have four lesson sessions per year– fall, winter, spring and summer—each consisting of eight weeks. During each session, volunteers and students meet on a weekly basis to work on mutually agreed upon goals.
Community volunteers and students will be matched by the MRC based on common musical interests, proficiency level and scheduling availability.
Requirements
We ask that our volunteers commit to all eight weeks of a session. You must also agree to attend one group volunteer meeting per year and an initial training session at the MRC before you begin your volunteering.
Before becoming a volunteer at the MRC, you must agree to and pass a background check.
Submitting an Application
To apply to be an MRC volunteer, download and fill out the application form. You can return the form in person at the MRC.
We accept applications on a rolling basis throughout the year; however, we only match volunteers with students four times a year. If you submit an application after the deadline for the current session, we will contact you about matching you with a student for the next session.
