Letter of Praise From Jim Gagnon At Dreamtimeproject.com

By Damani

Jim Gagnon is a youth music educator specializing in native instruments.  He is an accomplished performer and storyteller with a heart of gold and a spirit full of life.  He recently visited the MRC/Catech group for two sessions where he introduced them to Didgeridoo, native American flute, and a plethora of west African drums.  For more info on Jim Gagnon and his work, or if you would like him to be a part of a youth group you know, just visit Dreamtimeproject.com.  Here is what he wrote about his experience at MRC:

In regards to my experience with a group of teenagers at the Music Resource Center……

In just two sessions, I was blown away! I have worked with many groups of kids over many years, and this was truly one of the most creative, most inspired and most engaged groups I have ever worked with! Within a day, one kid told me he had went and cut some bamboo to make his own didgeridoo. And in our drum circles, with very little direction they were creating some very dynamic and diverse music. They also worked amazingly well as a group. They really liked checking out the different instruments I brought in.
I wanted to share some exotic sounds that they had probably never seen before, and to plant seeds for them to explore different cultures from around the world and across the ages. They really enjoyed the fun of exploration! I believe and I hope that they will research and incorporate the richness of the worlds music into their own.
It is after all, their world..
Thanks for providing such an amazing service to our community. The Music Resource Center is nothing less than a miracle in action!
Many Blessings, Jim Gagnon
Many blessings to you too Jim.  From all of us here at MRC.  Good journeys!
